WHAT IS COMPOSITE DECKING MADE OUT OF?
Composite decking is an advanced material that moulds together plastic resin with wood and wood fibres. This combination allows for an authentic looking product with a dramatically longer life span than traditional wood decking. As it is made from recycled materials, it is also good for the environment.
IS IT SLIPPERY WHEN WET?
Unlike traditional decking, composite decking does not become slippery when wet. Composite decking absorbs significantly less water than traditional materials and also limits the growth of fungi and mould which can make the surface slippery. This gives you a safe and secure platform to walk on, making it suitable for children and the elderly.
IS IT DIFFICULT TO INSTALL?
Composite decking is simple to install and does not need any specialist knowledge to be able to make your outdoor space look great.
Composite decking is designed to cut like wood, so if you’re comfortable with a saw then you’ll be more than happy to install this decking. It also has the benefit of having no splinters and will not split like traditional wood, making it even easier to fit. There is also the added advantage of not needing to treat it when installing, saving off many hours of work that you would have to undertake if using the traditional approach.
•Tools No specialist tools are required when working with Sunflower composite decking board. But for the best results, we recommend using Circular saw blades with few teeth (e.g. 8-24, on a 45 cm blade). We recommend using 4 x 30 mm (minimum) Corrosion resistant Self-tapping screws as supplied within the fixing kit for use with our hidden fixing clips. If using a power tool, we advise to adjust the tool so that the screws are not over tightened.
Maintenance & Aftercare Advice
Once your longlife composite deck is installed saige longlife decking is virtually maintenance free.
Normal maintenance of the composite deck can be done by sweeping or scrubbing the floor, or by using a garden hose or ideally a high pressure hose.
To avoid damage, make sure there is enough distance between the nozzle and SAiGE’s longlife composite decking. We recommend that you test a small area first. and make sure that you spray in the direction of the grain to avoid damaging the deck.
Please note that the boards will fade by approximately 10%-15% after installation within the first 2-6 months, after this the colour pigments stabilise.
